WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE!
It's a work in progress, so stay tuned...
Dear WSCA Members,
My name is Sarah Taiclet, and I have enjoyed serving as the president of the Western Suffolk Counselors' Association for the past two years! We are a very active organization for school counselors, college admission professionals, graduate students, mental health professionals, and more. Get involved!
I have met the most wonderful people by being a part of and ultimately leading this organization. We offer professional development, counselor breakfasts, membership meetings, college fairs and scholarships for high school students, networking opportunities, and more, in Western Suffolk County, on Long Island, New York. And, you can still participate if you don't live or work in Suffolk County, so if you are interested in counseling and helping students, this is the place for you.
A little bit of background about me: I have been a member of WSCA for more than 20 years. I grew up in Westchester County and I began my career as an Admissions Counselor at my alma mater, SUNY Oneonta, and that's where I fell in love with college admissions and working with high school and college students. I moved to Long Island in 2005 when I began my tenure at SUNY Old Westbury where I serve as the Associate Director of Admissions. My bachelor's degree from Oneonta is in Child and Family Studies with a minor in Educational Psychology. My master's degree from Stony Brook University is in Human Resource Management along with an advanced graduate certificate. As a certified life coach, I am passionate about helping people overcome their challenges, build self confidence, and realize their full potential. As a parent of two teenagers, I am also learning as I go!
I have been a member of WSCA's Executive Council for a number of years and have chaired our Scholarship Committee. Being part of WSCA has been a great experience and I am always learning something new. I encourage you to get involved in our community, attend our in-person and virtual events, and get to know some new people. I have met so many great people being part of our organization and I encourage you to get involved, join the executive council, share your ideas, have your voice heard, and let's work together collaboratively with the ultimate goal of assisting each other so we can best help our students be successful in their future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Sarah Taiclet
WSCA President
